About us
Establish in 2018
Established in 2018, after no one else was teaching this great sport in Geelong – We provide a community group for individuals who are interested in Kettlebell sport and specific Kettlebell training in general to train together.
Kettlebell (Girevoy) Sport is a power and endurance lifting sport, which is cyclical in nature, similar to swimming and running. Where the water is resistance in swimming, and the elements are resistance in running, the Kettlebell is the resistance in Girevoy Sport. Athletes are judged on the number of repetitions they can perform of various Kettlebell lifts (i.e. Snatch, Jerk and Long Cycle) in a set period of time. The minimum time can be from 10 minutes (traditional) all the way up to 60 minutes (Marathon).
Like any sport there a so many benefits. One of the biggest in this sport is resilience. With mental health on the rise, our club is there to help the communities growing need for a humble sporting club which can support someone’s health and fitness journey, but with a difference.
We here to help show people that they can be stronger and test their mental limits, all while training in a non-judgment and inclusive environment.
Our national organisation and sponsor is Girevoy Sport Australia Association, and is now in the process of getting recognised as a national sporting organisation, which is the first step to getting the sport in the Olympics. This is exciting for us, and will allow athletes in the Geelong region to participate in the Olympics and other competitions for generations to come.
The GKSA (Geelong Kettlebell Sport Association) is the first official locally Incorporated non-for-profit community club to have been established in Australia.
Through first-hand experience, we know how much this sport and now the club has helped current members mentally and physically. We have also formed to help grow the sport at grassroots, and be the first example club to help many more local clubs start and get inspired to grow, with a philosophy of paying it forward.
We have a goal by end 2024 to double our membership base to 20 athletes, as well as host our first, nationally recognised competition. Lara is the perfect home, as it’s close to Avalon and Melbourne Airports, as well as be an easy-to-access location for the rest of Geelong, and the Western suburbs of Melbourne.
We look forward to welcoming you one day, so come try it out for yourself, and swing into fitness!
